Dog Days of Summer

Sep 17, 2026

‍CONDITION: GOOD Since March 2026, Henry has experienced significant ups and downs.

‍HABITUS: Holding weight; but significant limpness in rear limbs, 0/5 resistance.

‍Clear, pupils = & reactive, occasional clear discharge nares, occasional clear oral drip (more than drool).

‍HEART: Occasional rapid rate, but always regular.

‍Respiration: Increasing frequencey of rapid shallow breathing at rest. Similar respiration per minute occurs without impetus and now several times a day. Henry is able to have normal respiration throughout the day.

‍BOWEL AND BLADDER: For several of the past weeks, Henry experienced frequent nighttime incontinence of bowel and bladder just inside his dog door. Pads did not help as Henry’s aim was lacking. I was happy to find an easy solution in two large, adjacent kennels. One side is Henry’s usual bed, the other side is a pad. Henry now barks when he needs to be let out and it is working very well.

‍ACTIVITY: Markedly increased exercise lethargy. Henry remains curious and wants engagement with neighborhood friends, including his best friends, Kaos and Mr. Bones. Henry has had a few other canine guests who have have provided enjoyable companionship!

‍NUTRITION: Henry’s appetite is diminished, perhaps due to less caloric need. Home cooking switched to cans and kibbles to provide adequate nutrition with decreased intake. Home cooked beef/chicken with flax seed to supplement.

‍SUPPLEMENTS:

‍Ubiquinol 3 squirts (CoQ10)

‍Nordic Naturals 1 1/2 t daily (EPA modulates inflammation, DHA fatty acid for cell wall health, Omega 3)

‍HMB 1050mg beta-hydroxy beta-methyl butyrate chew three times daily (muscle recovery, a lucine)

‍Also Taurine, L carnitine, Creatine, Collagen, MSM, Vitamin C, Vitamin D3, Calcium, Multivitamin with adequate B vitamins
