IF YOU’RE VIEWING THIS VIA A PET SEARCH SITE, WE’RE STILL ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR OPIE. PLEASE visit our website to read our policies as well as this dog's requirements/detailed profile.
Our dogs are placed in the Phoenix metro area, for proximity to our rescue (home checks, follow up visits, visit to finalize adoption) and for access to our veterinarian. Sorry, no exceptions.
Adoption begins with a Foster-To-Adopt period.
Opie’s a bit of a conundrum - he looks like a small brown bear and moves like a fox. However, he has cat feet, laps water like a cat, and rubs gleefully on us just like a cat! He is the happiest and most grateful dog, and he’s full of fun! Yes, he is a lap-pet even at his svelte weight. :) Vets estimate him as Cattledog but we’re going to say there’s something snuggly and gleeful in there, perhaps Husky.
Opie has some scars and though they’re not immediately apparent, we suspect he had some scary encounters in his previous life. Now, he is the life of the party and so grateful for everything. He takes snacks so gently! Opie's dog-selective, so will be carefully matched to a new dog companion (a female friend might be best).
Opie seems especially considerate about using his dog-door to reach his outside patio. He prefers getting completely away from the living quarters to do his business!
If you believe you're a possible match for Opie, please complete an adoption application! Please include information regarding your experience with this breed, and with raising and training a puppy.
Opie is not a barker and seems very house-trained so could be a good companion for condo living. He really enjoys running zoomies off-leash, so requires a fenced yard.
We encourage you to register on our site and "Favorite" the dog(s) that interest you, so that you will be notified when bio, photos, or status are updated.
  • "Fenced yard" means, a backyard that is adjacent to and connected with your residence. (It does not mean a nearby fenced area/dog park.)
  • Gates must have padlocks and thresholds (cement or buried pavers to prevent digging.)
  • Yard and patio must be free of debris and have room for dogs to run and play *on a lawn and/or in a very shaded area.* Please do not invite us to your home if you have not yet landscaped your yard!
  • We do not place dogs in situations where there are "drained" or empty swimming pools, which are a fall hazard and contribute to the propogation of mosquitos.
  • Last and not least, we DO NOT adopt to students as we have found that they often do not know or anticipate where life will take them.

Discussion about a dog - including scheduling of a home check or other dialogue - cannot occur until we have received your completed adoption application. NO EXCEPTIONS. Thank you!
