Dog Days of Summer

Aug 3, 2025

‍CONDITION: VERY GOOD! YIPPEE!!

‍Henry has regained the ground his lost due to anxiety of change of household. He is experiencing upper respiratory infection with exudate in eye and drippy nose — or is this Muscular Dystrophy? Henry has mainly been breathing with his mouth closed but has occasional lip flexing and puffing. His left eye still has medial crustiness and redness of the inner lid but that is vastly improved.

‍Henry has rapid respirations tachypnea that lessen at rest; lung sounds are clear. CARDIAC: rapid, tachycardia, but not pounding as it had been initially.

‍Henry continues to have loose stool movements. Just when I think they are solid and well-formed, he proves me wrong. His urine is clear and he still uses the floor or wet pads overnight. This is despite: earlier evening meal, fluid restriction, and late night walk. I wonder if this lack of control is due to  Muscular Dystrophy as bladder and bowel are also muscular and neurological functions.

‍HABITUS: 3/5 Henry is still slender but not as razor-sharp and boney. He is so excited to swim, do a zoomie, go for a walk, get attention from the entire neighborhood, including workers and doggie friends. Henry still plops down between activities at any moment, at the drop of a hat.

‍Henry is not a great eater; he still has kibbles with a wet topper. He still has difficulty manipulating things with his mouth but definitely likes goodies!

‍SUPPLEMENTS: Vitamin B12, Vitamin B1, Probiotic, Bovine musculo/skeletal support powder, fish oil three times a week, dental water additive, Vitamin C, Vitamin D x 6 days (new addition 250 mg), CBD before bed. Home made treats are made of flax seed, bananas, greek yogurt, applesauce.

‍DISCUSSION: Vet visit scheduled August 8, 2025. Got a rear seat enclosure for the vehicle that will hopefully help Henry the ride won’t stress Henry) Will discuss Rapamycin.

‍The most difficult parts of my days with Henry are when he is bright-eyed, alert, and excited, but melts into a rest time and plops down. His spirit is willing but his body is weak. My heart breaks for him.
