Henry is such a GOOD+ boy!

Jul 28, 2025

‍CONDITION: GOOD +

‍Henry has had a couple of bad days over the past few weeks. He showed inability to be as responsive and alert and less “bright” (BAR) than he had been when he reached VERY GOOD status. He was tachypnic (rapid and shallow breathing) and tachycardic (heart rate exceeded 100 beats per minute) with left eye medial inner lid redness and nasal drip (right nares).

‍Henry’s diet and supplements stayed the same, so as to not introduce any changes while he was feeling poorly. This has been chatted about in prior postings and in conversations with Better Days Rescue.

‍Henry has now regained the ground he lost. It may have been a part of Muscular Dystrophy, stress reaction (routine changes), or upper respiratory infection.

‍IMPROVEMENTS: No regurgitation, just a couple of burps. Lip flewing, less cheek puffing with breathing; can breathe occasionally with a closed mouth.

‍Henry enjoys walking and his distance and stamina has increased. When it’s cool outdoors, he can walk around the block. His gait has improved and the bunny hop has morphed into a sassy wiggle. There is no discernible rear spine hump. Nail scuffing is rare, he can go entire walks without a rear nail scuff. Shaking of rear legs is virtually non-existant.

‍Henry enjoys swimming and exits with a full jump up out of the water with ease — although he sometimes has trouble jumping on to the couch. He is interactive with the neighborhood dogs and will initiate play, especially with his pal, Mr. Bones.

‍PERSISTING: Henry still takes frequent rest breaks and has rapid respirations and heart rate. He has difficulty manipulating food and toys with his mouth and although he has no noticible tongue thickening, this may be a sign.

‍Bathroom training: Ugh. Despite changes in the time of his food and water and late-night walk, Henry still has to urinate and have a bowel movement at night.

‍0/4 resistance on rear legs

‍As Henry still has “opposite of sundowners” “night owl,” and constantly wants to lick me, consider this as an adrenal gland/cortisol dysfunction. Will discuss this with the vet at his visit next month.

‍HABITUS: 3/5

‍PLAN: As Henry has now regained lost ground and been stable for several days, prior plan of additive supplements will begin. Behavior modification is over due (but that’s on me). He will continue CBD at night and Pregablin will be held.

‍GENERAL: Henry is such a Good+ Boy! He is a bit attached with separation anxiety. Henry lives for the opportunity to do zoomies in the yard with his playmates. In early evening he starts looking at the front door for his walk. If ever I feel as if I had a horrible day, coming into the House of Henry… Henry’s greeting is the cure.
