Henry's Neighborhood Pal

Jul 21, 2025

‍CONDITION: GOOD Henry has had a couple of difficult days. More rapid breathing, eye discharge, nasal drip, significant increase in “plopping down” to rest, less interest, and declined swimming. Henry had a “punk” appearance.

‍During his two days in which he was not acting well, his left eye nictitating membrane (third eyelid) was very visible. Henry’s nose was dripping and alertness was diminished.

‍Respiration: Tachypnea: RPM @ rest 40 (15-30), at alert 110 RPM, while asleep 24 RPM. Tachypnea is different from panting from exertion. Cardiac was tachycardic yet not pounding and with normal auscultation; his chest had normal auscultation.

‍Henry’s gait was a wiggle rather than a “bunny hop” with less evidence of a hump. Scuffing of his rear feet toes is now rare. No change in body condition — 2/5 with lean, palpable bones.

‍Henry was bright, active, and alert. He is interested in his surroundings and craves nearness. He eats kibble with wet topping and supplements. Adding “good” calories has been difficult. Henry has had no regurgitation since last noted, and no evidence of tongue swell. Yet, Henry seems to have difficulty with oral manipulation.

‍PLAN: During his two-day set back, Henry was given two CBD chews and Pregabalin (Lyrica) in the event he was experiencing pain. Pregabalin works on the central nervous system and Henry had not taken it since the beginning of June as it caused significant daily fatigue and lethargy. Henry will begin CBD regularly with Pregabalin only as needed. Now that Henry has recovered from this recent set back, Vitamin D and PEA-400 can begin next week. Weruva brand food has been supplied for healthy calories and incentive. He will continue  receive bone marrow broth ice, dark chicken, and flax seed. I will begin making more food than treats.

‍Henry is still perfect! He enjoys belly rubs and laying across me to get ear rubs. He is now able to scratch his ears with his leg — better on the right side than on the left. Henry is very curious and interested in everything. He stands at the front window looking out. His friend, Mr. Bones, came to visit. Socialization is so very important for Henry as he is not able to enjoy the bark park and play with the other nimcompooches. Henry is able to run, dart, and jump….sometimes fly. Mr. Bones is his perfect neighborhood pal.
